Working is inevitable. We all need money to survive, but that doesn't mean that we should settle for a career that is less than we deserve. You spend a great deal of your day and your entire life at work, so it should be something you enjoy. Don't fall into the trap of believing that you don't deserve to enjoy what you do.

There are a lot of things you can do to get a better job. The first thing you should look into is perhaps upgrading your education. Taking a few classes or courses can give you the edge you need over competitors. Even something as simple as a two hour conflict resolution seminar will show an employer that you are serious about being a better employee.

Take your career into your own hands. Don't wait for the perfect job to fall into your lap. You have to look for it and plan for it. Rather than putting your fate in someone else's hands, do your own research and be your own best asset. Do this by actively scouring work boards and classifieds. Get to know what's out there and you'll be more likely to spot that perfect opportunity.

Be sure to network. They say it's not what you know but who you know and this can often prove true in job hunting. Let people know that you are looking for something fresh. Tell everyone from the mailman to the grocery store clerk. You'll never know who will know of something or someone you don't. Make it clear that you want something you can get passionate about and your excitement will set others on fire. They will want you to succeed and keep an ear out for new opportunities.

No matter how long it takes to find that dream career, don't give up. It might be around the corner or it might be a year away. Life simply doesn't let us know what's ahead. The trick is to keep a positive attitude and know deep inside that you are destined to wake up and look forward to heading to work each day.
