Find Your Way to Forgiveness

There will always be people who do things to hurt or upset us. Even those we love the most will disappoint us at some time or another. This is simply human nature and we cannot claim to be perfect ourselves. Forgiveness is a very necessary part of life, but most people have no idea how to do it.

First of all, in order to forgive someone their transgressions, you have to realize that you are doing it for yourself and not for them. Many people are still angry and don't feel like the other person deserves forgiveness. You may be right, but you definitely do deserve it. When you forgive someone, you release yourself from holding on to that hurt and disappointment.

Forgiving doesn't mean forgetting. Just because you forgive someone, doesn't mean you act like everything's wonderful again. If your best friend stole money from you, it doesn't mean that you leave your credit card with them after you've forgiven them! Get the point? Forgiveness is about acknowledging the past and letting it go. You no longer have to have the other individual in your life if you choose not to.

Finding forgiveness can be a long process. To get the ball rolling, you might try to have a meaningful conversation with the offending party. Tell them exactly how you feel and why they hurt you so much. Give them a chance to talk about why they did what they did. Keep this conversation to a time limit, or you might just end up rehashing the same issues over and over again without any progress.
