8 Great Quotes From Albert Einstein

By Frederic Premji under Inspirational Quotes

Einstein

Here are some of my favorites quotes from Einstein:

1- “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

2- “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

3- “Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.”

4- “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

5- “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.”

6- “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

7- “If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.”

8- “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”

I’ve always enjoyed these Albert Einstein quotes, particularly because within each of them is a deeper spiritual element (which is where a lot of my attention is focused these days).

Some of the ones you have above I hadn’t heard before, but may very well have to add to my Quote of the Moment script on my website. Specifically, I like quotes 5 and 8 a lot.

    Hi Chris,

Definitely quote #5 is great. Holds true, especially when we see so many conflicts around the world that don’t seem to be accomplishing anything in trying to “promote peace” by forceful means.

Einstein had alot of spirituality within his beliefs and it comes through in his quotes.

My favorite one is quote #2, which I had heard a long time ago….I wanted to see what other quotes he had written, so this post is the best ones I found from him (out of the hundreds of quotes attributed to Einstein!)

Good piece of contribution. Definately Einstein’s quotes are very interesting. As in point 5, where it is mentioned “Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding”holds very much true. Mutual understanding with good co-operation/understanding can bring peace. Point No. 4 is also very good. After all when you are on something new, you are born to make mistakes. If we don’t make mistakes, then we have not tried anything new. So it is a valid point. Other points are also very interesting and worth reading.

And also E= MC squared =]

first off, these are not points. when he said them he probably didnt envision people looking back on his remarks seventy years later. these quotes are merely a visionary being critical of the prism called life — and breaking it down for the layman to understand. though number eight is very insightful.

  6. Frederic Premjion 03 Apr 2008 at 12:43 pm

Sammer, I agree that Einstein probably didn’t think such comments would become very important quotes when he said them, but I think in many of them, the appeal is that it’s still resonates true today, more than 70 years later. That shows that he was truly ahead of his time.

    Frederic,

I have always greatly enjoyed quote #2 as well. I think of all the quotes, it’s also the hardest one to actually embody and understand at a deep level.

I conceptually understand it on the surface, and occasionally get it at that deeper level… but to embody it? Honestly, that’d be a little bit scary… :)

    Good list.
I am not sure whether the 6thquote is Einstein’s. I think it was Jung who said something like, you cannot solve a problem by using the same level of consciousness that created it (or words to that effect).

  9. Frederic Premjion 04 Apr 2008 at 8:06 pm

    sndy,

perhaps Einstein rephrased Jung’s quote in his own words. To be honest, alot of quotes out there are simply the same ones but with different words. It’s still fun to read them :)

“Everything I know is but a drop in the ocean of knowledge”

I can’t remember where I read that, but I’m 80% sure it was Einstein who said it.

Here are two of my other favorites:

“The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.”

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.”

These quotes are so enjoyable and ever so true. Gives us food for thought - I just wish I could recall them when I need them.

  12. Frederic Premjion 08 Apr 2008 at 11:02 pm

    Caleb,

The ocean quote, I think it is indeed Einstein. The other two quotes are definitely a little more difficult to process, but they ring very true. Einstein has many more complicated quotes, so when I compiled those 8 quotes, I read through probably over 100 of his quotes/statements and those were the ones I felt would appeal the most to anyone reading them without having to think too much. I think his genius comes through more clearly via simplicity :)

I have always loved Einstein. But I do not agree with number 5. It certainly sounds good. But does not feel right. I personally feel like we have become a society of pansies. Especially us men… sad. I suppose I am just not very progressive… Happy Wednesday!
