Teaching Design For Change
Designer Emily Pilloton moved to rural Bertie County, in North Carolina, to engage in a bold experiment of design-led community transformation. She’s teaching a design-build class called Studio H that engages high schoolers’ minds and bodies while bringing smart design and new opportunities to the poorest county in the state. A great idea with a horrible name. Teach Design for Change sounds too much like an Obama bullshit line where change becomes something unwanted and horrible. Obama made the word “change” a very negative word and it will take quite some time before the word is looked at as being something positive again. Any connection with the failed and mindless politics of Obama makes me think the worst right off the bat. Once I saw the video, I thought is was a very good idea in spite of the negative mindset the name gave me.
