Yesterday, I spent the day at The Power Within Event in Montreal, which was headlined by the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton. It was quite an interesting day to say the least, and here is my review of this event:

The event started at approximately 8:30am and it was packed from the get-go. The host of the event was comedian James Cunningham. He is a very effective comedian and was very funny throughout the day. His jokes were mostly Montreal-based, so I figure that his material is adjusted according to whatever city the event is in. He was a very good host overall.

First up was Mike Lipkin. I hadn’t heard of him before, but he definitely left his mark appropriately! He had a ton of energy, was really funny, and explained useful concepts to help people in various areas of their lives. I especially liked his 6 P’s (perspective, pre-eminence, prize, promise, process, partners). I also liked how he emphasized that people should do what they do best. Other concepts such as the quality of stories you tell yourself daily dictate the quality of your life, and that you simply have to “be you” instead of trying to be someone else since all those other people are already taken, was very effective in my opinion. Overall, I wonderful opening speaker, and probably the best one of the day.

Next up was Loretta Laroche. She was really funny. I’m not sure if she is a comedian, but she certainly could be a great one. She had people in tears out of laughing so hard. She was very effective in singling out daily life occurences and pointing out their silliness. She also discussed how stress is becoming an epidemic, and how adults are really not laughing enough. This lead of quite a funny scene as she made the entire audience force themselves to laugh out loud for 30 seconds. It was sort of awkward but very funny! Bottom line, her message is that people that enjoy themselves more have a higher productivity rate. Especially in this time of economic crisis, it is still important to take things lightly and have some laughs. I couldn’t agree more. She was definitely one of the favorites of the whole event, especially after making everyone hold hands and sing “that’s amore”!

Next up was Phil Town. He was to discuss investments, and how you can still make money even in a poor market situation. He was a very fast talker, and as one of my friends pointed out, he probably lost 90% of the audience with his statistics and rapid fast talking style. I thought he was interesting in how he was explaining how to select stocks and figuring out how to buy and sell them so that you always get a return. He talked about Warren Buffet’s rule #1 of “don’t lose money”, and to follow what the big investors do. Then, out of the blue, he said that to get all this information and learn how to take $1000 and make over $90,000 in less than two years, we would have to sign up to another workshop with a value tag of over $6,000! However, since it was such a “special” event, he would make it available for the mere “low” price of $495. It was like a “sleazy salesman” type move, and I don’t think it should have taken place at this event. I wasn’t alone in thinking this, however, many people were sold and ran to the back to sign up. I really thought he was a good speaker until the “sales pitch”

Next up was Dr. Antonia Novello. She talked a little about health, and service; mentioning that “service is the rent you pay for living”. She discussed women’s progress through history, gaining the right to vote, and pointing out female presidents around the world. It was a nice speech for what it was. She was not a high energy speaker but she is a well respected and highly accomplished woman that showed that anything is possible if you truly believe in it with all your heart.

After an hour lunch break, we were treated by a singing performance by the group The Canadian Tenors. They were really good, sang about 3 songs and talked a little bit about themselves. However, the music was not the high energy that is needed in a motivational seminar. This could make people sleepy! But they were very good tenors and sang wonderfully.

Next up was Richard Dolan, to talk about happiness economics. He discussed creating a portfolio of purpose, and had a neat little exercise where we had a piece of paper with a list of items and we had to choose which ones are the most important to ourselves. Items such as money, family, faith, etc. Then we had to choose which ones we actually invest our time and energy into. I thought it was a very good exercise, as it can really show that what you are paying attention to is not what makes you happy, and thus the reason why you may feel imbalanced in your life. Overall, I thought he was a decent, humble guy, and I definitely liked his speaking style and what he talked about.

Next was actor Martin Sheen. He seems like a genuine decent guy, that was happy to be there. He recounted a story where he forgot who Paula Adbul was (she was his daughter-in-law!) as proof of his bad memory. He talked about how he got started in acting. He was a very funny storyteller, such as when he talked about his wife putting the groceries list in the box at Lourdes, instead of the wish list she had concocted. He brought up some quotes by FDR, Gandhi, and Desmond Tutu. Overall, he was a pleasure to listen to. I am not aware of most of his work as an actor, but I will certainly pay more attention whenever I come across his work in the future. I admire decent, charismatic individuals such as himself.

Before the keynote, there was a nice video package on Lance Armstrong where he recounted how he fought his way back to the top of the cycling world after wanting to quite forever. His saying that in a way, his cancer was the best thing that happened to him was very powerful. A prime example of taking an absolute negative and turning into an amazing positive. Excellent video.

So finally, it was time for the main attraction. President Clinton came out to a standing ovation. Canada definitely loves Clinton! He talked about fear and how it affects the world. He mentioned the financial crisis and how a GM collapse could mean serious trouble for Canada as well. He said that this crisis won’t be over a year from now, and it would probably be 3 years. He talked about how it all started in the housing market where there was too little oversight, and how expensive a foreclosure is (it’s much cheaper to simply renegociate the loan). Clinton also talked about how the fundamentals of the economy are imbalanced, and how the US and Canada are interdependent. We are after all, their biggest trade partner. He also gave multiple solutions to this crisis. Then, he went on to talk about how the richer countries still need to help the poorer countries even in such a situation, thus creating strong alliances all over the world. He talked about AIDS and how his foundation has helped get medicine to millions of people worldwide. He said that it’s not enough to just be a citizen, and that we all need to find ways to contribute. It was a pretty good speech. Clinton seemed a little tired, but it was understandable, since he was in Moncton that same morning for another speech. I thought it was great to hear one of his speeches live and in person. He’s a highly gifted orator, probably only surpassed by Obama. After his speech, he sat down for a Q&A where he talked about how Canada influenced his choosing of his daughter’s name, and did as good a job as a politician can do to avoid answering the question of if his wife would accept the Secretary of State job!

In conclusion, I thought it was a pretty good day. The Power Within is a very organized company. The event went smoothly, it was very professional, classy, and everything was under control. I was impressed and I would definitely attend another event from this company. So if you have ever thought about going to one of their events, do yourself a favor and go ahead! It will make you laugh, make you think, and make you change something about yourself for the better

There is no denying that we are going through a very serious economic turmoil, the likes of which we have never seen in our lifetime. The world and our society are experiencing significant changes that will certainly reshape many industries and this will undeniably trickle down and affect us in our daily life. So I think it would be logical and smart to discuss how we can all cope with this crisis. Here are some tips that can help you weather the financial storm:

1- Stay under control
Now is no time to panic. Certainly, these are serious conditions, but freaking out and running around like a chicken without its head will do absolutely no good. When faced with adversity, you must remain in complete control. This is why it is crucial to remain calm. Only under such circumstances can you make sound decisions and rationalize what is happening with logic. Keep in mind that this crisis is affecting all of us. We are all in the same boat, so there is no need to let things get out of hands. We do not have much control over what happens in these financial markets, but we do have full control over ourselves, so this is what we should focus on controlling. Great leadership is conveyed through calm and peace during difficult times, and what we need right now from everyone around us is good leadership.

2- Keep informed
It is extremely important to remain in the loop to know what is actually happening in these troubled markets. If there was ever one topic that people definitely need to pay attention to, it is this one. The more knowledgeable you are about this, the better decisions you can make. I highly recommend that you get your news and information from various sources, as well as discussing it with your friends. We need to share perspectives and opinions so that we can carve out the best possible plan for ourselves. Also, try not to saturate yourself with too much news from the media. It can be very easy to get discouraged when exposed to so much negativity. While it is very important to stay informed, you do not want to overdo it to the point where you think this is the end of the world and can’t sleep at night anymore.

3- Reassess your financial situation
With the information that you have gathered, you need to start asking yourself some important questions. Is my job or business affected by this? For example, the auto industry is in shambles. Do you or your company have links to this industry? What about your investments? Do you have alot invested in companies that are on the brink of a financial collapse? This is why you need to stay informed, so that you can perhaps rearrange your investments into a more appropriate solution. For example, gold is currently a skyrocketing investment. Can you afford your mortgage even if the interest rates go up? All these pertinent questions will raise your level of awareness and have you start thinking about serious & logical answers.

4- Have a back up plan
I am the type of person that always has a plan B, C, or D. This has helped me achieve a great amount of success in my life. The worst thing that can happen is to be slapped with a surprise event that forces us to change our path, but not knowing which path to now take. This is why you absolutely need a back up plan. What will you do if you lose your job? You need an answer to this in case it happens. What happens if your mortgage payments inflate significantly? How do you react if the value of your investment portfolio is dwindling down at an alarming rate? Having such a plan in place will not only save yourself many sleepless nights, but it can help save you some valuable time, energy, and probably money, simply by having had a rapid, yet smart answer to help you guide you into a new direction.

5- Change your spending habits
When there comes a time of recession or depression, you need to become extremely careful with money. Spending on unnecessary items & keeping expensive habits will only put you in the hole deeper if you end up losing your job or your interest rates go up. You have to be smart about how to go about this. Being preemptive in case things get worse can make a huge difference in your life. Instead of taking an extravagant vacation, perhaps a more economical one is the best way to go at this time. Maybe go a little easier with the Christmas gifts this year. Even if the oil prices are currently dropping, perhaps you can keep your driving habits that you changed to save you money when the prices were through the roof. Anything that can help keep more money in your pocket is a good thing during these challenging times. Now is not the time to rack up more debts, so living within your means is key to getting yourself through this crisis.

While it is a serious situation, it is not necessary to let this crisis take over your entire life. Keep a positive attitude about this, continue to enjoy your life, and make plans for your future. We will certainly get through this. We will ride this wave and there will be much easier days ahead. Just be ready. Prepare yourself just in case. It’s like wearing a seatbelt in your car. You do not want nor expect to be in an accident, but just in case you are, at least you are protected. Have this same attitude with your finances. Put your financial seatbelt on, because the ride may indeed be quite rocky!

More than 5,000 years ago, in the ancient mystery schools of Egypt, the mental and spiritual laws and principles of success were taught to students who dedicated their entire lives to learning in what was called the “Esoteric Arts.”

One of these “secrets” was the Law of Attraction, which said that your mind is a magnet and that you invariably attract into your life people and circumstances in harmony with your dominant thoughts, especially your dominant thoughts emotionalized.

Today we say, “Like attracts like” and “Birds of a feather flock together.” From ancient times, it was known that your mind sends out vibrations, like radio waves, that are picked up by the minds of other people who are tuned into the same rate of vibration.

The force that determines the sending power of your mental vibrations is the amount of emotion, positive or negative, that you put behind a thought. If there is something that you intensely desire, something that excites you and enthuses you, you will send out powerful, high-frequency vibrations that can travel large distances in split seconds and cause your phone to ring from someone you have not heard from for months or even years.

Because your mind is so powerful, especially when backed by emotionalized thoughts, you must handle it carefully, like a child handling a gun. The Law of Attraction is neutral. It works on both positive and negative thoughts. It brings into your life whatever you are thinking about on a regular basis with either fear or desire.

When the book, “The Secret” came out, along with the movie, I was happily surprised to see that the first half of the movie comes from my audio program and seminar, “The Psychology of Achievement” which was produced initially in 1981. We videotaped the live seminar which explains the Law of Attraction along with thirty-one other laws, plus how this law is applied in every area of life, and then distributed the video seminar world wide, including New Zealand, where the Author of The Secret comes from.

The weakness in The Secret is that it is “necessary but not sufficient.” Of course, it is important that you think positive thoughts and that, by so doing, you will attract positive people and circumstances into your life. But it is not enough.

In response to The Secret, I decided to write a book which is called “Flight Plan — The Real Secret of Success.” In this book, I explain that life is very much like a long distance flight. When the plane takes off, it will be off course 99% of the time. But nonetheless, the plane will eventually arrive at its destination, even thought it was off course most of the time.

In my experience, the real secret of success consists of three major factors: First, you must be absolutely clear about your destination. By this I mean that must have clear, written, specific, measurable goals, committed to paper and organized into specific, step-by-step plans of action.

Before you can set your goals, you must know exactly who you are and what you want. You must do a thorough analysis of yourself, your life, your hopes, your dreams, your ambitions, and where you want to be sometime in the future. Then, you create a “Flight Plan” to get you from wherever you are today to wherever you want to be in the months and years ahead.

The second part of Flight Plan is that you must “take off!” You must have the courage to step out in faith with no guarantee of success. You must be prepared to launch in the face of your fears, doubts and natural reluctance to break out of your comfort zone. “To achieve something that you have never achieved before, you must be prepared to do something that you have never done before.” (Les Brown).

Once you have launched toward your goal, like an airplane, you will meet with unexpected turbulence, headwinds, updrafts and downdrafts, lightning, storms and every sort of mechanical problem. You must be prepared to make continual “course corrections” as you move toward your goal.

Perhaps the most important quality for success is, and always has been, the quality of persistence. You must resolve in advance to persist in the face of any difficulty or problem that you experience. You must resolve in advance that you will never give up. You must resolve in advance that you will view every temporary setback or difficulty as merely a signal that you need to make a “course correction” as you move inevitably toward your goal.

This is a great time to be alive. The very best days of your life lie ahead of you. The highest income of your life is still to come. The greatest experiences of your life are still to be experienced.

There is very little that you can not accomplish if you will file your flight plan.
Being able to properly speak in front of an audience is a skill that can be immensely important, whether you are an artist, running a business, or being a student. At one point or another, you will need to make a speech or do a presentation in front of a crowd. Having done a multitude of presentations in my time, whether it be for school or for work, here are some useful tips that can help you turn an otherwise stagnant performance into pure gold:

1- Tell stories
One of the best and most effective ways to make people connect to what you are saying is through storytelling. It is much easier to remember the lesson or the idea of the presentation if it was told in a way that makes the audience listening to it visualize it easily, and experience it as if it was them going through that situation. Barack Obama used this brilliantly in his victory speech on Nov. 4th when he discussed the story of this 106 year old woman. The next day, all the media were talking about it. Behold the power of storytelling!

2- Relate to your audience
When you are on stage, although you are not a part of the audience, you have to relate to them as if you were among them. You have to put yourself in the shoes of the people watching and ask yourself, how would I like to be talked to? You see, you don’t want to lose your audience with intellectual jargon that bypasses their head 90% of the time. You have to use example and language that they will relate to. Another good example is politicians on the campaign trail. They will adjust their speeches as well as their behavior according to the city and population they are in, so as to connect with their audience on a more personal level.

3- Laugh at yourself
When you are on stage, in a position of authority, it is important not to take it all too seriously. You don’t want to be sitting on your high horse looking down at everyone else. This is why humor is the best method to show a little humility. Being able to poke fun at your own expense will convey the message to your audience that you are a fun-loving person that doesn’t take this whole process so literally. I remember this one presentation I had done for an English Litt. class where I had really nailed it and done a masterful job in terms of technique and content. Thankfully, I made it humorous at my own expense, and it eased the crowd ALOT. Audiences love humility, and they will respect and admire your talent and skills even more when you are able to laugh at yourself.

4- Involve your audience
A solid presentation should always include the audience. There is nothing more boring than just listening to someone talk without any involvement. To get your audience involved mentally and emotionally, you have to get them involved physically. Through laughter is one way, as we mentioned above. Tony Robbins asks his audience questions, and asks them to scream “Aye” if they agree with what he says or does. Getting your audience to clap, stand up, or even pick out certain members of the audience for a particular exercise or demonstration is a wonderful way to get your audience involved. It makes them pay attention, and thus makes the entire experience much more memorable.

5- Tune into your daily life
When you can provide an insight into your day-to-day life while doing a presentation, it can help you connect with your audience on a deeper level. When an audience listens to a multi-millionaire, or a business mogul, or the CEO of their company, it can be hard for them to imagine this person as just another human being with the same daily struggles as everyone else. This is why it’s crucial to provide such examples to show that you are just like them, and not an alien from another planet. I recall this one presentation I was attending. There was a huge chaos downtown due to a problem with the bus system. The speaker mentioned this at the beginning of his speech and really showed that he went through the same problems as his audience to get to the venue. It was a brilliant move that really made people pay attention to anything else he had to say.

6- Be prepared
This should be a no-brainer, but you wouldn’t believe how some people show up unprepared to give speeches. I’ve seen people read off cue cards without making any eye contacts, and some people stop dead in their tracks and start over. There is no better way to lose your audience than by doing this. For an audience to trust you and let whatever it is that you are saying sink in, it needs the proof that you LIVE what you are saying. It needs proofs that you are an expert in the field, and such an expert does not stumble. You want the audience to look up to you and be amazed. You don’t want people in the audience to say “I can do this better than he can”. Zig Ziglar practices for his presentation for hours and hours the day before. That’s on a presentation he’s been presenting for over 20 years! In the world of public speaking, it’s best to never show up than to show up unprepared.

7- Be creative
Bonus points are definitely in store for thinking outside the box and doing things out of the ordinary. For example, if you are to give a presentation among a bunch of other ones, do you really want it to be the same as everyone else? Of course not, you want to stand out and be memorable. You want to be the star that shines the brightest among all other stars. This is where your creativity can come in handy. This was one of my strongest points when I did presentations at University. I would watch all others, and instead of saying “what can I borrow from them?”, I would ask myself “what can I do to be different from them?”. You can strike gold by being completely different than everyone else.

8- Surprise your audience
This follows the same logic and ideas as the point above about being creative. However, a creative idea can also be stale. So you want to surprise, shock, and entertain your audience! This will make sure that your creativity is broadcasted throughout the audience under its best form. I remember seeing this presentation about mathematics from this tiny nerdy looking man that seemed so quiet and peaceful. Everyone thought that this would be a very technical presentation that would bore half of us to sleep. On the contrary, once this man started, he came alive, spoke very loudly and with tons of gesturing and running up and down the stage. It was quite the sight! Totally took us by surprise and really made us pay attention. There were other speakers that day, but I only remember this one man. That’s how powerful surprising your audience can be!

9- Have a good time
When you are up there on stage, you need to enjoy yourself. Nobody will enjoy a speech or presentation if the person speaking looks uncomfortable or looks like they don’t want to be there. This is your time to shine, so make the most of it. Next thing you know, it will be over, so you really want to be fully present into the moment, suck it all in, be yourself, and just appreciate how wonderful it is that all these people are listening and looking up to you. If your audience believes that you are having the time of your life, they will have a great time being in your presence.

Public speaking and presentations are a necessity as you climb the ladder of success. Hopefully these tips will help you along the way

Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist, an influential thinker and is renowned as the founder of analytical psychology. Although he was a theoretical psychologist and practicing clinician, much of his life’s work was spent exploring other areas, including Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, sociology, as well as literature and the arts. His most notable ideas include the concept of psychological archetypes, the collective unconscious and synchronicity. Jung is the source of some of my all time favorite quotes. I admire how he mixes logical thinking along with a grain of spirituality and the subconscious realms. Here is a list of my favorite quotes from Carl Jung:

Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine or idealism.

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves.

Nobody, as long as he moves about among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble.

The healthy man does not torture others - generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers.

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotions.

A man who has not passed through the inferno of his passions has never overcome them.

Great talents are the most lovely and often the most dangerous fruits on the tree of humanity. They hang upon the most slender twigs that are easily snapped off.

In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.

It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.

Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.

Knowledge rests not upon truth alone, but upon error also.

Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.

Show me a sane man and I will cure him for you.

Shrinking away from death is something unhealthy and abnormal which robs the second half of life of its purpose.

The debt we owe to the play of imagination is incalculable.

The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.

The pendulum of the mind alternates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong.

The word “happiness” would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.

There is no coming to consciousness without pain.

We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.

Who has fully realized that history is not contained in thick books but lives in our very blood?

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

It’s common knowledge that to get somewhere in life, to leave your mark & make an impact, you have to get things done. You can’t do things half way or a third of the way and expect glowing results. The percentage of people that actually get things done is directly related to the percentage of successful people in society. Here’s why:

Most people give up

Most people never finish anything. I remember a University teacher I had telling the whole class of freshmen that only a handful of the 400+ students in the class would ever finish their degree. He was right. I saw my friends, one after the other, quit.

I witnessed the same behavior in the workplace. People just give up instead of pulling through the rougher times. Especially in the entrepreneurial world, I have seen people abandon their business half way through. It’s quite disheartening, because I firmly believe that it is best to judge a finalized work, than a job done in half. Can you really judge a book by reading only half of it? What if the second part is just incredible? You end up with the wrong judgment, and potentially on the wrong path.

Theoretically speaking, you can succeed by default. Simply hanging in there, while watching everyone left and right give up, you will succeed. You don’t need to be the best or the brightest. By just never quitting, by always being in the game and sailing through the more difficult times without retreating like all these losers, you pretty much guarantee yourself success. You wonder why certain people, with no clear talent or charisma make it to the top? They held on longer than everyone else. They have stayed while everybody quit. They have made it, purely on the Law of Quitters.

Now, if you can combine quality, expertise, and care to this law, then you are surely going to succeed beyond any limits you ever thought possible! You see, sticking in there is half the battle. Know that by not giving up and completing your goal in full, you will already be more successful than 98% of people out there, regardless of the results. Now, if you add in an attitude that reflects positivity, innovation, and uniqueness, then you may very well be cementing for yourself an even higher level of success.

I remember once I had a speaking engagement to do and it was on a brutal winter day. Of course, I could have called in and said “I’m not going out there!”. However, I was taught to always do everything in full. I had prepared to be there, and people expected me to be there. So I went. Of course, with the law of quitters, 90% of people never showed up. They could have showed up (if some did, everyone could have), they just decided it would be too hard or too complicated, and just gave up. That day, instead of doing my speech in front of 100 people, I did it in front of 10. And let me tell you, I did it with the poise and the professionalism as if I was in front of 100 people. I didn’t do it half way. I went full throttle, and I was very pleased with the performance & got wonderful feedback.

This is why you should always keep on keeping on, even if everyone around you is quitting. Do everything in full, because that’s the only way to truly experience success, judge accordingly, and never have any regret. Instead of being one of those quitters in that Law, be the one that takes advantage of this Law to ensure your ultimate success

The holiday season is almost here. Everyone experiences stress. Whether it is the holiday stress, or stress of a first date, the stress of a volatile workplace, or the constant, persistent, nagging stress that occurs even in non-stressful situations, stress can occur for any reason and at any time.

Stress is at its best irritating and at its worst deadly. Stress has been linked to cancers, heart disease, immune problems and psychological disorders. Even at its weakest form it can cause anxiety, uneasiness, and general discomfort that can get in the way of your daily life.

And stress is self-sustaining. Stress causes discomfort which causes problems in your life which, in turn, causes more stress. Stress is not something you can simply wait out and hope that it will go away. Instead, you need to learn proper coping mechanisms so you can reduce and eliminate stress from your life.

Stress Coping
The way to remove stress is to use various stress coping techniques. These techniques have been studied by researchers and psychologists for several decades, and proper utilization can help you reduce stress:

•At Home
•At Work
•In Other Situations

By learning the proper stress coping techniques, you can live a longer, healthier, more stress free life.

At Home
Your home is the key place to de-stress your life. No matter where you are experiencing stress or why, the techniques for reducing stress at home should be used to convert your residence into your primary place of relaxation. Some of the best ways to de-stress at home are:

1) The Hot Bath/Shower
While it may be simplistic, a hot bath or shower takes tension from your muscles as well as your mind. It can keep your body calm which will keep you calm, and the time to yourself is helpful as well. Put on a little of your favorite music and your bathroom will be one of your favorite spots to go to after a long day.

2) Write it Down
Call it a journal, call it a diary, call it a venting space – whatever you want to call it, writing down what is making you stressed will make you less stressed. One of the reasons your brain focuses so intently on problems and stress is because it wants to remember it (even if you don’t). Writing it down tells your brain that it there is a permanent record of what you are thinking about, and it allows your brain to stop focusing on the problem.

3) Don’t Belittle Your Problems
One of the worst things you can do is assume that your problems are not important. Many people try to compare their problems to the grand scheme of life and assume that because their problems pale in comparison, they are not important. If it makes you stressed, it is always important.

4) Exercise
Exercise stimulates brain cells, causes you to rest your body and mind, and improve the amount of endorphins your body creates (which help you feel better). Exercise also helps you sleep better, and a lack of sleep is one of the primary causes of chronic stress.

At Work

Work is almost always the cause of stress in the lives of most individuals. If you can remove the stress of work from your life, you are going to be a happier, less stressed individual.

5) Keep Yourself Organized
Your brain can make stress for you. Just by trying to organize and remember things. Your brain may go on over-drive trying to recall or retrieve information even without you giving the command. Your subconscious is always working. This often results in more stress as the brain works to solve problems.

Work hard to organizing your work. Make sure you know exactly what’s next. With a good plan of sequence in place, you relieve the brain and reduce stress. Reduce clutter. Keep your desk clean and your files in the right places. Clutter provides your brain with a lot to process, which increases its stress.

6) Taking Breaks
If you stare are a computer screen all day, your eyes will get tired. You will begin to squint more as you continue looking at the screen. Squinting causes your eyes and mind to stress. Take short little breaks. This allows you to rest your eyes. You may just walk around stretch your legs. It will help release some tension from your mind.

7) Make Jokes
The more light-hearted you can treat your workplace, the less it will cause stress when you leave work. If you can leave your work stress at work, the rest of your life will be less stressful.

In Other Situations

Obviously, home and work are not the only places you experience stress. Whenever you begin to sense tense feeling of stress in other situations, you may want to use the following coping methods:

8 ) The Time Out
Take a few moments before you make a decision. Take deep breaths and relax. Divert your mind to something else before returning to the situation. Some people are prone to making rash decisions based on their emotions. Often the result is they make mistake which creates more stress. Removing yourself from the situation often reduces the current stress. It allows you time to reconsider the best options and make a decision that won’t cause you more stress.

9) Be Honest
Hiding problems and lying serves no one. Honesty helps you release your stress, even if the result is not what you want. Telling the truth helps you move on and reduces stress on your life, even if it causes a very temporary amount of stress at the time.

Dealing with Stress
Reducing and eliminating stress is not just something you do because you want to – it is important for your health and your overall well-being. By using stress coping techniques, you can add years to your life and live happy and healthy.

Life can be beautiful especially when you have taken steps to eliminate major life stressors. With your thoughts, actions and associations, you have that choice to make it so. Once in a while take a mini vacation maybe go on your first cruise ship vacation.

Break away from your daily routine, do something different and get close to nature. Go and explore other cultures and see different lifestyles. Who knows you may like it and discover something wonderful.

The Honorable
William Jefferson Clinton

President Clinton was the first Democratic president to be awarded a second term in six decades. Under his leadership, the United States enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. On leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and through the world to meet challenges of global interdependence. The Clinton Foundation focuses on four critical areas: health security, with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS; economic empowerment; leadership development and citizen service; and racial, ethnic and religious reconciliation. In 2002, President Clinton began the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) to assist countries such as, Africa and Asia, in implementing large-scale, treatment and prevention programs that will turn the tide on the epidemic. President Clinton remains involved with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) which brings together a community of global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
